With so many couples postponing their weddings until 2021 or beyond—and wedding-gown salons not having the room to store the altered and ready-to-go gowns—brides have been inquiring about how it’s safe to best store them at home. So I reached out to designer Sareh Nouri for her expert advice.

Here’s how to store your wedding gown at home:
- You can store your gown in the plastic and garment bag that it comes in.
- Place it in a closet that is well ventilated, not in an attic or basement.
- Make sure that the gown is away from sunlight.
- Keep the area clean and check on your dress every once in a while.
- Make sure that if there are other clothes in the closet, that they are clean and dry, because soiled clothing can attract moths.
- Prevent moths. Wipe down the closet walls, baseboards, clothing rods and shelves every few months with a soft cloth and homemade all-purpose cleaner. Store only clean and dry fabrics in the closet since moths are attracted to odors, oil and moisture in fabrics that are soiled with food or grime.
